Hey friends and family and happy Mothers Day yesterday! It was so good seeing my family even though they only tease me the entire time.....Yet I still love them? Who knows why! ;) Anyways hope you all enjoyed your Mother's Day and to all my other "moms" out there you're awesome and thanks for what you do for me, you're wonderful as well.
Monday: Well preparation day today was good as always, although we didn't do much....as always haha were so lame I know. But our lesson with our family was so awesome today!! :) We had it on family history and got them my family booklets and everything. And we were able to fill out almost all of it! So that was awesome and they were all so excited to do family history and that their daughter can go to the temple and do their family names. By the end of the night they had pulled out all of their family photos and even the ferret was joining in on the fun (see picture below). But it was so amazing and I'm so grateful for temples and temple work. It truly is a miracle to see that every person has the opportunity to be baptized and that even though they weren't able to do it while they were here Heavenly Father still has a plan for them.
Tuesday: We had district meeting today and it a really weird meeting but I just think that's because it's been rainy for the past four day and everyone is just lethargic and tired. But then we went to Burger King to meet with our less active and we waited there for 45 mins before she told us to meet her at her house... That would have been nice to know earlier haha. But we were still able to have a great lesson with her about the word of wisdom and the law of chastity so that was great to be able to teach her that. She is awesome about the word of wisdom and even helps us explain to our investigators why we have it. She's so awesome. Then we had to get our oil changed....which took forever. We were waiting for over two hours. But hey we got to watch the primary elections so I guess that's cool? Haha I have no idea what is going on in our country.
Wednesday: We had service at prospect park this morning and we had to do weeding for the entire time. But hey it was fun so my mom would be proud! ;) Then we headed down to the bottom of Brooklyn to have our exchanges with the sister training leaders. We had service at a members house and helped her get her house ready to rent while they're gone for six months. I was happy to see them again because I saw them on my last exchange. Our sister training leaders are in a trio right now so I was put with sister Park and sister Shiobara for the night and we were able to meet with to inactive members. The relief society president came with us to the first lesson and had a great lesson on faith and testified as much as we could and you could feel the difference in her home while we were there and she noticed it too. The second member we met with is really shy and quiet and she can't leave her house very often due to a heart condition she has. She gets heartattacks really easily and has had 14 heartattacks over the past 3-4 years. She is a walking miracle! I always love hearing about people's lives and the things they've been through we can always learn from other people and their experiences.
Thursday: We were still on exchanges for most of the day but this morning we had to go to the Brooklyn Day of Prayer. So it's this special day in all of Brooklyn where all people of Christian Faith's gather together to pray right? Well it was an interesting experience
haha can I just say I love gospel choirs? The pastor was making us sing along and his comments were just hilarious. "Hold the hand of the person sitting next to you. Yeah....SQUEEZE THAT HAND!" and then this baptist goes up and says her prayer and I've never been to scared in my entire life. She was screaming, literally banshee screaming about how "MAY THE BLOOD OF JESUS COME DOWN UPON US!" And "HAVE MERCY ON US LORD AND HAVE MERCY ON OUR CHILDREN!" I can't even fully explain how loud she was yelling. It was a good experience though and it was interesting to see the difference between our prayers and the missionaries were the only people who actually bowed our heads in reverence. After the meeting we got to meet to borough president and got a picture with him and they put it up on his Facebook so we're basically famous haha. Then we finished up our exchanges and came home and did deep clean because it's the end of the transfer.... :( boo.
Friday: We had a last minute zone training meeting today but it was so good and our zone leaders, elder Clair and Voorhees gave amazing trainings. Elder Clair discussed about how we received new counsel from our mission president and from now on we will use the time from 6:00-7:30 to ONLY teach and to find people. That means no looks ups, service, traveling etc. We had to be in a lesson or talking to people on the street or contacting referrals. It will be a new change but it's the counsel our mission president has received from the lord so all will be well :) Elder Voorhees discussed about our success as missionaries and how it depends on our attitudes. Because if we are out here because we want to help spread the gospel then we won't care if people will be baptized, we will be satisfied looking back and saying I put everything into that year and a half or two years. It was amazing and I'm always so grateful for these learning opportunities. Then we had to weekly plan for our last week of the transfer! So crazy that it's already here.
Saturday: Today we had a branch party hosted by our branch president and it was super fun. It was a BBQ/ potluck so we had a ton of food and there was so much watermelon I was in heaven. It was a super long party and we had to help set up and take everything down so that's all we did for today.
Sunday: I GOT TO SEE MY FAMILY!!! :) I miss your faces so much even though my sisters only make fun of everything about me..... But we had church and then afterwards we skyped and then did phone games. Nothing to fancy but someone did give me their number on the train today haha so that was awkward..... But we did get a rose at church because we're "future moms" haha. It was a really good day :)
Love and miss you all so much and I'm grateful for the opportunity to be serving here in New York. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the world :) as Bishop Staheli always says, "You could be anywhere in the world right now but you decided to be here!" Wonderful. Talk to you all next week! Oh and here is a video or my companion clogging!!
