Hello friends and family! First of all I just wanted to thank you all for the wonderful birthday wishes! You're all the best and for
remembering. The big 2-0 here I come haha nah it's not that exciting. Only thing that is different is that I'm no longer a teenager. But I
hope you're all still doing well and had a wonderful Father's Day! 😊
On Tuesday we had a miracle day and we were non stop going from 9:00am-9:00pm. We had six lessons in one day and let me tell you that never happens! Okay I won't say never because it obviously happened to us but it was so awesome and only two were appointment previously set up. Heavenly Father blesses us each and every day :) I love coming home from a long day and just passing out knowing you killed it. It's the most satisfying thing to come home dead tired.
I had some really good studies on spiritual gifts this week because it discusses about that a lot in my patriarchal blessing so I obviously wanted to know more about it but I found a really cool quote from a talk by Robert D. Hales that said, "Remember that the reason we want to have the stability and strength of the gifts of the Spirit is that we want to weather the storms when they come. We will be tried in this mortal probation. We don’t want to decide to learn how to swim when the boat is already sinking. When a severe disability or problem comes to a family or an individual, a high percentage of families and individuals break up, disintegrate, because they are overwhelmed and unprepared. That is why we are faithful, and that is why we remain strong and have those spiritual gifts. (Gifts of the Spirit)" As we strive to discover and develop our spiritual gifts we will become prepared for whatever Heavenly Father has prepared for us and to accomplish his purposes. We each have a distinct gift for a specific reason. It's like our own personal fingerprint, each person is unique and never identical. :)
So we really pushed ourselves this week to get out and talk to more hearing people and so we've been tackling the streets of New York everyday. I have a few good stories so prepare yourselves for a (maybe) good email haha. First there was a man who turned out to be a preacher! Awesome....not! He whipped out his bible faster than lightning. Then for an hour told us we were the devil and preaching the Devils gospel and how we needed to tell our prophet he's a fool. I love these moments, they really are testimony builders believe it or not. Remember my lesson at the taco truck with Austen? Yeah pretty much same scenario. I'm learning lots of charity and patience on my mission as always :)
My birthday was super good! We went and did some street contacting in east New York and this is one of the most ghetto cities in Brooklyn. But we talked to these two guys and one of them started the conversation with "Rumor has it that these people send you to these ghetto places where they're killin each other so that you get so scared you never want to come back! You stick out like a sore thumb! Why are you here?" Haha it was so funny. But his friend started asking us questions about God so he stopped us and said "Hold on while you teach my friend here a lesson, I'm going to go get a drink." Then he handed me the keys to his car so he wouldn't get a ticket and walked away! I didn't even know what to do haha he put so much trust into two girls he met literally two minutes previous. Guess he recognized us a true representatives of Christ? But hey he got us a water so he was
super nice! We spent the rest of the night with a member looking up less actives, she is so much fun :) also my family decided to send me relighting candles for my cake and they wouldn't stop burning and they started smoking like crazy! But we got a new fire alarm the day before and it started going off and the only way we could get it to stop was by holding a box over it! Haha the NYFD almost crashed our birthday party! Thanks family for your demon candles.
Sunday....boy oh boy did we have an interesting sacrament meeting. First of all we had two investigators come to church! Yay! But a less active member was asked to give the closing prayer in sacrament meeting and she gets up and just started going off about her dad and his health problems, our branch president tried to stop her and ask her to say a prayer not tell us her problems and she flipped and broke down crying. Two members had to take her off the stand and then one quickly said a closing prayer. Some major DBD <- deaf branch drama. It's a real thing here in New York. But I did meet with a senior missionary today as we were discussing about family history and she said something that really hit me. She said "our missions are never over. Because every time we take a name to the temple we are doing missionary work!" I love that so much because it's so true. Heavenly Father loves his children so much that he gives them so many opportunities to accept the gospel not only in this life but in the one after as well. That just shows how much he truly does care about us.
Gosh I love New Yorkers! They're crazy but I love them. The people just make the mission interesting and add some spice to your average missionary work. Well my motivation is gone to write a weekly but here's lots of pictures and videos because pictures are worth a thousand words right? I love and miss you all so much! Talk to you all soon :)
Love, Sister Seay
